CAB concerned over appointment of political dealers in OMS, TCB

Kishoreganj Correspondent

Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) has called for an end to political influence in the appointment of new dealers in the Open Market Sales (OMS) and Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) programmes.

The organization's kishoreganj  district Committee said in a statement that these two important food-friendly programs are facing various obstacles due to political considerations and are threatening the food security of the general public.

In a  statement,  CAB , district president Alam Sarowar Tito said that after the political change of August 5, many OMS and TCB dealers appointed during the previous government went into hiding. As a result, the sale of daily necessities including rice and pulses came to a standstill. This affected the effectiveness of the government's alternative measures to prevent price hikes in the market.

The statement said that during the previous government, political influence was evident in the appointment of OMS and TCB dealers. Many of the individuals who were appointed were busy seeking their own business and political benefits rather than implementing the government's goals. Furthermore, the relevant departments were also unable to effectively monitor the appointments.

CAB leaders expressed their anger and said that in many cases, attempts are being made to appoint dealers based on political considerations, similar to the old government. Some are even trying to exert more influence than in the past and establish a single hegemony. They said that if this process continues, food-friendly programs will collapse and the food security of the common people will be disrupted.

They called on the new government to ensure transparency and public interest in the appointment of dealers, otherwise the unrest among the people over food will increase and the government's goodwill will be questioned.

The statement was singing by district president Alam Sarowar Tito, executive president advocate Maya Bhowmick, general secretary Monowar Hossain Rony, jount secretary Sadek Ahamed and treasure Md. Asad.
