‎Water Resources Minister Md. Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie MP said that work should be done in cooperative societies to involve the marginalized people in the mainstream of society. Initiatives have been taken to form cooperative societies to make grassroots men and women self-reliant through rural development and cooperatives. Marginal people should be developed through cooperatives.

‎The Minister said these  while speaking as the chief guest at the 42nd annual general meeting of the Central Cooperative Society Ltd of Sadar Upazila at the Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila Parishad auditorium on Sunday.

‎The Minister said that the number of members of the cooperative societies should be increased and necessary initiatives should be taken to make the societies effective. All the resources of the cooperative society in Lakshmipur should be utilized properly. He called for taking necessary initiatives to improve the irrigation system for agricultural work in Lakshmipur under the Chandpur Irrigation Project of the Water Development Board.

‎Annie Chowdhury also said that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman waived off agricultural loans of up to Tk 10,000 to farmers in the first cabinet meeting after taking charge of the government. The current government has already launched family cards and farmer cards as a pilot as per its election promise. Family cards and farmer cards will be distributed across the country in phases.

‎The minister also distributed wheelchairs and rickshaws among the disabled people received by the Department of Social Services at the premises of the District Council in Lakshmipur.

‎The annual general meeting held under the chairmanship of Lakshmipur District Cooperative Society Chairman Nizam Uddin Bhuiyan was attended as special guests by District Council Administrator Shahabuddin Sabu, Sadar UNO  Kathwaipru Marma, District Cooperative Officer Ashraf Uddin Rumi, BRDB Deputy Director Kallol Sarkar, Wahid Uddin Chowdhury Happy, Vice President Bangladesh Football Federation.
