189th anniv of Cumilla Zilla School celebrated

Cumilla Zilla School, one of the country's leading schools, has entered its 189th year. The founding anniversary of this ancient school, was celebrated with colourful arrangements.
The 188th anniversary of the glory of Cumilla Zilla School was celebrated on Sunday with a joyous procession, cake cutting, discussion meetings and prayers.
The event was held from 10:30 am to 2 pm. On the occasion of the day, a separate cake was cut in each class. On this occasion, students of different classes made black T-shirts. The campus of about six acres became filled with the sound of students' bells.
The festival was attended by Cumilla Regional Director of Secondary and Higher Education Professor Somesh Kar Chowdhury, District Education Officer Md Rafiqul Islam.
The event was presided over by Cumilla District School Headmaster Md Abdul Hafiz. Assistant Headmaster of the morning branch Sudipta Rani Roy, Headmaster of the day branch Md Nurul Haque were present.
Cumilla District School was established on July 20, 1837. Henry George Leighister, the then Chief Clerk of the Tripura District Collector's Office and the Tripura District Magistrate's Court, established the school. He was the first headmaster of the school. Later, the British Indian government converted the school into a government high school with the aim of promoting English literature and science education.
At present, there are 1,911 students in both morning and day shifts. There are 52 teachers in both shifts. The area of land is 5.69 acres. The school is located in the heart of Cumilla city. This renowned traditional institution is located in the eastern-southern corner of Dharmasagar Dighi. Teaching is conducted from class 5 to class 10. The school is the number one school of the Comilla Education Board in SSC with an average pass rate and GPA of 5.
Headmaster Md Abdul Hafiz said, this school is our ornament and pride. It is a school of a group of talented people. It has been achieving good results with regular class examinations and the efforts of parents, teachers and students.
Many famous people of the country were students here. The students of this school participated in the great liberation war of 1971. The students of this school participated in the language movement of 1952, the education movement of 1962, the six-phase movement, the 1990 movement, and the July-August movement of 24. The role of the students of this school is bright in culture, sports, debate, scouts, and Olympiads.
