Asif joins symbolic marathon, marking July Uprising anniversary

The five-kilometre symbolic marathon began at 7 am from the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre.
Some 1000 competitors passed through key points, including Ganabhaban, the Parliament Complex and Khamarbari before concluding at the starting point.
Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shoaib Bhuyain inaugurated the event and spontaneously joined the symbolic competition, jointly organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation (Martyrs Memorial Foundation).
The event began with a one-minute silence in memory of those killed in the mass uprising.
Speaking at the closing session, Asif Mahmud said the student-people uprising of July is a glorious chapter in the country's history.
“This uprising has unveiled a new era for the establishment of democracy and people’s rights. By participating in this symbolic marathon, we pay tributes to the martyrs and are trying to inspire the younger generation with that spirit (of the movement),” he said.
