
Boat rally in Barishal on Mother Hilsa Conservation Campaign in main breeding season of Hilsa

A joint operation was held by the district administration and the District Fisheries Department, Barisal, to protect the mother Hilsa resources in the Kirtankhola River from the city's DC Ghat on the occasion of the reproductive Hilsa Conservation Campaign 2025 at 11 am on Saturday.
The campaign was led by the President of the District Task Force Committee for Hilsa Resource Development and Deputy Commissioner, Barisal, Mohammad Delwar Hossain, and the Divisional Director, Fisheries Department, Barisal, Kamrul Hasan. Superintendent of Police, Barisal, Md. Sharif Uddin, Superintendent of Naval Police, Barisal Region, SM Nazmul Haque, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue), Barisal, Md. Obaidullah, District Fisheries Officer, Barisal, Ripon Kanti and many others. The operation was conducted in the Kirtankhola River in coordination with RAB-8, Navy, Coast Guard and Naval Police. At the end of the campaign, the guests discussed various aspects of what we can do to protect the mother Hilsa.
From October 4 to October 25, 2025, for 22 days, Hilsa fishing, buying, selling, transporting and preserving is prohibited to develop Hilsa resources. 54 teams will work to conduct campaigns to protect mother Hilsa in Barisal district and ensure round-the-clock river guarding. In order to successfully implement the Hilsa conservation campaign, 30 executive magistrates have been appointed by the district and upazila administration. Under the humanitarian assistance program for fishermen to refrain from harvesting Hilsa, a total of 1663.100 metric tons of rice at 25 kg ha has been allocated to 66524 families in the district.
