Brig Gen Sultanul Afrin Junaid takes charge as new Fire Service DG

Brigadier General Sultanul Afrin Junaid, SUP, on.Monday officially took over as the Director General of the Fire Service and Civil Defence Department.
He formally assumed charge from the outgoing Director General, Brigadier General Muhammad Jahed Kamal, NDC, AFWC, PSC, who returned to the Bangladesh Army after completing a tenure of two years and ten days at the helm of the department.
The transition process began at 9:00 AM when the outgoing and incoming DGs jointly planted tree saplings at the Jolsiri Fire Station in Narayanganj in the presence of senior department officials.
A "Farewell Durbar" was held at 11:00 AM at the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters. Directors, project directors, the managing director of the Welfare Trust, the principal of the Training Complex, and officers of various tiers attended the event directly, while divisional deputy directors, assistant directors, and staff members from across the country joined online.
Later at noon, an "Officers’ Address" was organized at the headquarters' conference room, where officials reflected on the career and contributions of the outgoing chief. In his address, Brig Gen Jahed Kamal shared his experiences, expressed gratitude to officers and staff for their dedication, and praised the overall cooperation he received during his tenure.
Following the formal handing-over ceremony in the Director General’s office, Brig Gen Jahed Kamal signed the inspection book and bade farewell to the officers and staff before departing the headquarters.
Taking charge in the afternoon, newly appointed DG Brig Gen Sultanul Afrin Junaid addressed department officials at 4:00 PM, emphasizing the importance of properly discharging their duties to protect lives and property.
He highlighted his expectations regarding enhanced professional efficiency, swift response during accidents and disasters, better coordination in rescue operations, and ensuring overall fire safety across the nation. He expressed his firm resolve to elevate the standard of public service through collective effort.
Earlier on September 22, 2026, the Ministry of Public Administration issued an order appointing Brig Gen Sultanul Afrin Junaid as the new DG of Fire Service and Civil Defence while transferring Brig Gen Muhammad Jahed Kamal back to the army.
