Brigadier General S M Lutfor Rahman has assumed the position as the fifth vice-chancellor of Bangladesh Army University of Engineering & Technology, says a press release.

He formally took over the responsibilities in a simple ceremony, succeeding former vice-chancellor Brigadier General Md Mizanuzzaman, on July 21.

The ceremony was attended by the university’s treasurer Colonel, retd, Md Shawkat Hossain; controller of examinations Colonel, retd, Hla Han Maung; registrar Lieutenant Colonel, retd, KFA Sohel; dean of Science and Humanities Faculty Professor Md Sazzad Hossain; dean of Mechanical Faculty Professor Mohammad Nurul Islam; dean of ECE Faculty and director of IQAC Professor Mohammad Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, departmental heads, proctor, student welfare adviser, deputy registrars, admin and academic; faculty members and university officials.

Before joining BAUET, the newly appointed vice-chancellor served as the wing commander at the Army Aviation Maintenance Workshop.

In the Bangladesh Army, he has held numerous command, staff, and training-related roles.

He was also a long-time faculty member in the EEE Department at the Military Institute of Science and Technology. Additionally, he served as the head of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering department at Bangladesh Military Academy.

He has received advanced training in Aeronautical Engineering from the Bangladesh Air Force.

He also underwent foreign training on Bell-206 L4 helicopters and CASA C-295 aircraft as an aviation engineer. Furthermore, he served as an instructor for engineers in the Army Aviation branch and received training in electromedical engineering in the United States.

In his academic career, he achieved outstanding results in both Secondary and Higher Secondary levels.

He secured 3rd position in BSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from KUET with first class, and also completed MSc Engineering (C&E) from BUET with first class.

He is currently conducting advanced research at MIST.

He has served in two UN missions and participated in various training, audit, and deputation programmes both at home and abroad.

He has visited USA, UK, China, Spain, UAE, Egypt, Kenya, Mali, Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Turkey
