Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur celebrated 'July Mass Uprising Day -2026' with due dignity and festivity. The day's program was officially started by hoisting the national flag on Wednesday morning.

Then, the colorful procession was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Md. Shawkat Ali from the south gate of the university's administrative building. In the rainy morning, teachers, students, officers and employees of various departments and offices of the university participated in the procession with banners led by the Vice-Chancellor. To the tune of musical instruments, the procession passed through Parker Mor, Shahid Abu Sayeed Chattar, Modern intersection and then circled the main roads of the campus.

Then, on the occasion of the day, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Md. Shawkat Ali planted a tree on the campus. After the tree planting, the Vice-Chancellor spoke to the media personnel. At that time, he said, today is the second anniversary of our July mass uprising.

The entire credit for the unprecedented mass uprising of all the students and the public in July 2024 belongs to our youth. It is because of this youth that a democratic environment has returned to Bangladesh today.

Vice-Chancellor Berobi said, the sacrifice of martyr Abu Sayeed, the pioneer of the July mass uprising to build a Bangladesh free from fascism and discrimination, is a rare event in the world. He said, the sacrifice of martyr Abu Sayeed was a shining example of this movement, which continues to inspire the struggle of the young generation even today.

In addition, a road magazine was published with writings based on the July Uprising. After Zohr, a prayer and Milad Mahfil was held at the central mosque of the university to pray for the forgiveness of the souls of the July martyrs and the speedy recovery of the injured. Special food was arranged for the students of the three residential halls of the university on the occasion of 'July Uprising Day-2026'.

In the afternoon, a discussion meeting was organized in the field adjacent to the residence of the Vice-Chancellor of the university.

The convener of the July Uprising Day-2026 Celebration Committee, Prof Dr. Md. Ferdous Rahman, Proctor and Registrar (Additional Duty) of the university, presided over the discussion meeting. Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Dr. Md. Shawkat Ali, was present as the chief guest. Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, was present as the special guest. After the discussion, a cultural program was organized to commemorate the July Uprising. In this, students of the university and the popular band music group 'Bagdhara' performed their songs.
