Two Bangladeshi nationals, including an SSC examinee, were released by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) after an eight-hour detention at the Patgram border in Lalmonirhat.

 The duo was handed back to Bangladesh authorities following a flag meeting between the BSF and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on the night of Saturday at 3 a.m. at the Burimari Land Port zero point.

The individuals, identified as Rimon, son of Mustak Hossain from Patgram, and his nephew Sajedul Islam from Bogura, were detained by the BSF on Friday at 6 p.m. near Sub-Pillar 825 of the Gatiarpara border area. The two had reportedly crossed into the no-man’s land adjacent to a tea garden to film TikTok videos. Upon noticing their presence, BSF patrol personnel apprehended them and took them into custody.

Following the incident, the BGB swiftly intervened and initiated communication with the BSF. A flag meeting was convened, resulting in the detainees' safe return. Upon their return, Rimon and Sajedul were reunited with their families.

Local residents and the families of the individuals expressed their gratitude to the BGB for their prompt action in securing the safe return of the detainees. Patgram Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Zillur Rahman confirmed the incident, stating that the BSF responded positively to the BGB's request and returned the two individuals that night.

Sajedul Islam, one of the detainees, explained, "We unknowingly entered the no-man’s land and were filming some pictures and videos of the tea garden when BSF personnel apprehended us."

The incident highlights the ongoing challenges at the Bangladesh-India border, where individuals occasionally cross into no-man’s land, leading to detentions. Authorities on both sides continue to work towards ensuring the safety and security of border residents while maintaining bilateral cooperation.
