Police have sought a seven-day remand to interrogate content creator Tawhid Afridi in connection with a murder case linked to the July Uprising.

Md Erfan, CID’s investigation officer, filed the remand petition on Monday.

Around 11:30am, he told reporters: “A seven-day remand application will be made for Tawhid Afridi.”

Tawhid, son of Nasir Uddin, chairman and managing director of the private television channel MyTV, was detained by a CID team in Barishal on Sunday night.

Barishal Metropolitan Police Commissioner Shafiqul Islam confirmed the arrest, saying: “CID members from Dhaka arrested him with our help.”

He added that Tawhid's location was tracked “with the help of information technology”.

Kotwali Model Police Station OC Mizanur Rahman said Tawhid was detained from a building next to the Popular Diagnostic Lab in the Bangla Bazar area.

According to the case dossier, Md Asadul Haque Babu, a protester, was shot during a demonstration in Dhaka’s Jatrabari area around 2:30pm on Aug 5, 2024.

He was later declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.

On Aug 30, 2024, the victim’s father, Joynal Abedin, filed a murder case with Jatrabari Police Station.

The complaint named 25 people, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Tawhid and his father were also listed among the suspects.

Detectives from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Nasir Uddin in Gulshan on Aug 17.

The following day, a court granted police a five-day remand.

After its completion, he was sent to jail on Saturday.
