
Coast Guard detained 26 people involved in illegal sand extortion in Harirampur

The Bangladesh Coast Guard has conducted an operation on Tuesday midnight in Harirampur, Manikganj, detaining 26 individuals involved in illegal sand extraction, along with 5 dredgers, 3 bulkheads, and cash amounting to Tk 85,000.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Harun-or-Rashid informed this through a press release on Tuesdsy noon.
The press release said , based on confidential information, a special operation was conducted at 1:00 AM on Tuesday in the Padma River near Ilishar Char, under Harirampur Police Station, Manikganj, by a joint team from the Coast Guard’s temporary contingent in Paturia and the Rajbari Outpost. During the operation, 5 dredgers, 3 bulkheads, and 85,000 taka in cash were seized, and 26 individuals involved in illegal sand extraction were detained.
The detained individuals are -Hasan (32), Sharfuddin (20), Md. Rasel (30), Shahbuddin (26), Md. Rakib (25), Faisal (36), Saiful (24), and Rasel (28) from Barishal; Abusayed (25) from Pirojpur; Mujibur Rahman (55) from Bagerhat; Shamim (35) from Patuakhali; Juwel (31), Abdul Razzak (60), and Tota Molla (50) from Dhaka; Shafiul Azam (52) and Amirul Islam (54) from Manikganj; Rasel (32), Rafiqul Islam (22), and Shakil (16) from Lakshmipur; Faisal (30) from Munshiganj; Habibur (26) and Abdullah (16) from Barguna; and Sujon (26), Biplob (30), Rasel (25), and Mithu (27) from Narayanganj.
The process of handing over the detained individuals, along with all seized evidence, to Harirampur Police Station for further legal action is underway. Two underage detainees, Shakil and Abdullah, were released on bond.
To maintain law and order in the country, the Bangladesh Coast Guard has been conducting round-the-clock patrols.
