Coast Guard detained drug dealer with 16- kg cannabis in Chandpur

The Bangladesh Coast Guard detained a suspected drug trafficker and seized 16 kilograms of cannabis during a specialized anti-narcotics drive in Chandpur district on Wednesday afternoon.

Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon disclosed the information, stating that the confiscated narcotics have an estimated market value of around Tk 4.80 lakh.

Acting on a tip-off, a special team from Coast Guard Station Chandpur conducted the raid at around 2:00 PM in the area adjacent to the Boro Station under Chandpur Sadar Police Station.

During the operation, the law enforcers intercepted a suspicious individual loitering in the area. Upon searching his luggage and bags, the team recovered the massive haul of cannabis and immediately took him into custody.

The detained individual and the seized narcotics are currently being processed for subsequent legal actions through the local police station.

The Coast Guard will maintain its uncompromising stance and continue such rigorous enforcement operations in the future to curb the spread of dangerous drugs and protect the youth from substance abuse, the press release added.
