Khulna Bureau
Bangladesh Coast Guard personnel successfully rescued four fishermen held hostage by the notorious robber group "Samrat Bahini" following a special drive in the Sundarbans.
The operation was conducted on Sunday afternoon near the Arbania Canal along the Shepsa River under Dacope Police Station in Khulna.
Acting on a tip-off under the ongoing special operations "Operation Restore Peace in Sundarbans" and "Operation Mangrove Shield," a team from Coast Guard Outpost Nalian raided the area. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the bandits fled deep into the forest, leaving the four hostages behind.
The rescued fishermen—identified as Moinur (50), Badsha Gazi (39), Sujon Hossain (34), and Imamul Mollick (22)—all hail from Paikgachha Upazila of Khulna district. According to initial inquiries, they were abducted on October 10 while catching fish and crabs, and were subjected to torture for ransom.
Authorities confirmed that procedures to hand over the rescued fishermen to their respective families have been taken.
