
Coast Guard rescues critically sick child from launch near Gazaria

The Bangladesh Coast Guard on Wednesday carried out a swift medical evacuation of a critically ill five-year-old boy from a passenger launch near the Shatnal area of Gazaria.In a statement issued Thursday (May 1), Coast Guard media officer Lt Commander H.M.M. Harun-ur-Rashid said the child, Md Saidul Islam, was en route to Dhaka from Bhola with his parents aboard the launch Karnaphuli-3 for advanced medical treatment.At around 2:00 pm, as the vessel was passing Gazaria, the child's condition deteriorated sharply. A Coast Guard member onboard the launch immediately notified the Station Commander at BCG Station Pagla in Narayanganj.Upon receiving clearance from the authorities, a patrol boat was dispatched to the location. The team administered emergency first aid and quickly transferred the child to BCG Station Pagla via speedboat. He was then taken by ambulance to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he was admitted to the emergency department for further treatment.Bangladesh Coast Guard remains committed not only to securing the nation’s coastal and riverine areas, but also to responding to humanitarian emergencies,” Lt Commander Harun-ur-Rashid said. “This incident is a testament to that commitment, and we will continue to serve the people with dedication.”
