A discussion meeting was held in Pirojpur today to raise public awareness and foster a drug-free society.

 Organized by the platform 'Social Initiative against Drugs' in collaboration with the Pirojpur district administration, the event took place at 5:00 PM  on Monday at No 7  Sankarpasha Union Parishad auditorium in Sadar upazila.

Sadar UNO  Mamunur Rashid attended the program as the chief guest, while the acting chairman of the 7th Sankarpasha Union Parishad, Fazlul Haque Fakir, presided over the session. Habibur Rahman, general secretary of the Retired Armed Forces Association, moderated the discussion.

Speaking as special guests, the convenor of Social Initiative against Drugs and senior journalist Moniruzzaman Nasim Ali, Additional Public Prosecutor Advocate Wahid Hasan Babu, Sadar Police Station OC (Investigation) Rajesh Sen, and Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) Inspector Bapon Sen highlighted the gravity of the drug crisis. Local public representatives Kamal Uddin Khan, Md. Mostafa Kamal, Jajir Hossain Jahangir, Jamal Howlader, Nasrin Akhter, and teacher leader Md. Shah-Alam also addressed the gathering.

The speakers emphasized that drug addiction has morphed into one of the most pressing social crises threatening today's youth. They underscored the urgent need for a coordinated effort combining families, educational institutions, social organizations, and the local administration to protect the younger generation from the devastating impacts of substance abuse. They further urged people from all strata of society to join hands in building a powerful social movement against narcotics.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the participants collectively pledged to implement a well-coordinated action plan aimed at turning Pirojpur into a drug-free district, vowing to work in unison to strengthen anti-drug campaigns and heighten public awareness.
