Staff Correspondent
Early planning and coordinated government interventions implemented four months ago have significantly reduced Dengue infection and mortality rates compared to previous years, State Minister for Health Dr. M. A. Muhit stated on Tuesday.
Specialized training for physicians and evidence-based treatment protocols have led to a nearly 40 percent reduction in dengue mortality compared to earlier years, bringing the fatality rate down from five per thousand patients to three per thousand.
Talking to reporters following a seminar on mental health at the Bangla Academy on Tuesday, Dr. Muhit stated that the government formulated a targeted action plan four months in advance and issued early warnings forecasting a peak in dengue cases from late September through October.
Highlighting field-level interventions, the State Minister noted that the Prime Minister inaugurated a nationwide cleanliness and awareness drive at the South Plaza of the National Parliament alongside 1,000 young volunteers from the Red Crescent and Bangladesh Scouts.
Dr. Muhit mentioned that Dhaka and Khulna divisions are experiencing the highest caseloads, with City Corporation administrators and health teams working around the clock to eradicate mosquito breeding grounds.
