
DEO in N’ganj to control air pollution, Tk 3 lakh fined

The Department of Environment conducted an operation in Narayanganj to combat air pollution.
During the operation in the Borpa Rupshi area of Rupganj Upazila, two polluting companies were fined a total of 3 lakh taka.
The companies are Messrs. Bikrampur Steel Limited and Resource Battery & Co. (Pvt.) Limited.
Among them, Messrs. Bikrampur Steel Limited was fined 2 lakh taka, while Resource Battery & Co. (Pvt.) Limited was fined 1 lakh taka.
The operation was led on Monday (May 12) by Executive Magistrate and Senior Assistant Secretary Fayzunnesa Akter of the Department of Environment’s Monitoring and Enforcement Wing.
The team conducting the operation included officers from Narayanganj District Police and the Department of Environment’s Narayanganj District Office.
Assistant Director Md. Mobarak Hossain of the Department of Environment initiated the prosecution process.
AHM Rased, Deputy Director of the Department of Environment, Narayanganj, stated that the fines were imposed on the two companies for violating Section 8(a) of the Air Pollution (Control) Rules, 2022, under Section 15(2) of the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act, 1995.
He further mentioned that similar operations against polluting factories or projects in Narayanganj will continue.
