DU’s brilliant student Samya remembered in prayer, memorial gathering

DU Correspondent

A special prayer and memorial gathering was held today, Friday after Jummah prayers at the mosque of Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, organized by the University of Dhaka administration, for the departed soul of Shahriar Alam Samya, a brilliant student of the Institute of Education and Research (IER) who was recently killed.

The event was attended by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan, Syndicate Member Professor Dr. Mohammad Abu Yusuf, Proctor Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, Registrar Munshi Shams Uddin Ahmed, and other members of the university community.

As Samya was a resident student of Sir AF Rahman Hall, the hall administration also organized a dua and milad mahfil after Asr prayers at the hall mosque. The Vice-Chancellor, the Proctor, and Hall Provost Associate Professor Kazi Mahfuzul Haque Supon, along with students, officers, and staff of the hall, were present.

Following the ceremony, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan visited Samya’s dorm room and spoke with his roommates.

He called upon everyone to cooperate in ensuring justice for the murder of Shahriar Alam Samya. He also informed that three individuals have been arrested in connection with the murder, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects. The university is in regular contact with law enforcement authorities to ensure swift legal action.

The Vice-Chancellor further added that several urgent steps have already been taken to enhance overall student security on campus.
