Faisal Biplob, former Member of Parliament from Munshiganj-3 constituency and district Awami League leader, has been placed on a 7-day police remand in connection with the murder case of Sajal Molla. The incident occurred on August 4 last year during a one-point movement led by students and citizens near the Supermarket area of Munshiganj town.

On Tuesday at 9 AM, Chief Judicial Magistrate of Munshiganj Amli Court-1, Md. Ashiqur Rahman, granted the remand after a hearing. Investigating officer Sajib Dey, Inspector (Investigation) of Sadar Police Station, had sought a 10-day remand, but the court approved a 7-day remand. Faisal Biplob was then sent back to Munshiganj District Jail under tight police security.

Following the hearing, leaders and activists of the district units of Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal staged a protest on the road outside the court, demanding the maximum punishment for the former MP. They also burned an effigy of Faisal Biplob.

Earlier, on Monday (June 30), Biplob was transferred from Keraniganj Jail in Dhaka to Munshiganj Jail. That evening, at around 7:15 PM, Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal organized a protest march in Munshiganj town demanding capital punishment for him. The procession, which started from the BNP district office, passed through the Kachari area and ended at the party office courtyard. The event was led by Md. Masud Rana, Member Secretary of the District Jubo Dal; Maksudul Alam Babu; Rayhan Kabir, City Jubo Dal Member Secretary; Abul Hashem, District Chhatra Dal President; Tajul Islam, General Secretary of Sadar Thana Chhatra Dal; Sohel Rana, City Swechchhasebak Dal Member Secretary; and Md. Onik, Convener of Govt. Haraganga College Chhatra Dal, among others.
