
Fine, imprisonment for soil extraction from agricultural land in Sreenagar

A mobile court has imposed fines and jail sentences for illegally cutting and selling topsoil from agricultural land in the Sreenagar section of Arial Beel.
Acting under the direction of Srinagar UNO Md. Mohin Uddin, an operation was carried out at around 6 AM on Friday in the Alampur and Arial Beel areas of the upazila, during which a soil-laden boat was seized.
The mobile court was conducted by Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Golam Rabbani Sohel. Under the Land Crime Prevention and Remedy Act 2023, four individuals were sentenced to 30 days in jail each, and another four were sentenced to 15 days each for selling the fertile topsoil from agricultural lands. A total fine of 404,000 BDT was also collected.
Also present during the operation were Srinagar Police Station's Second Officer, Sub-Inspector Md. Nazmul, and other police personnel. Executive Magistrate Golam Rabbani Sohel stated that similar operations against illegal soil extraction and dredger activities in public interest will continue in Arial Beel and across Srinagar Upazila.
