Freedom Award-winning educationist Prof Jatin Sarkar is no more

Independence Award-winning writer and eminent educationist Professor Jatin Sarkar (90) is no more. He passed away on Wednesday at around 2:45 pm while undergoing treatment at the ICU of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. 

He  has  been suffering from various complications related to old age for a long time. In June, he fell and injured his thigh bone. Later, he was taken to Dhaka and given advanced treatment. He returned home after recovering. Last week, he fell ill again and was admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. He passed away there on Wednesday afternoon while undergoing treatment.Jatin Sarkar was the president of the Bangladesh Udichi Shilpi Gosthi Central Sangsad for two terms. His body will be taken to Udichi's Mymensingh office to pay tribute. However, the decision on the last rites has not been made yet, said CPB's Mymensingh District Committee President Emdadul Haque Millat. Incidentally, Jatin Sarkar was born on August 18, 1936, in Chandapara village of Kendua upazila of Netrokona. This former teacher of the Bengali department of Nasirabad College, Mymensingh, was involved in thoughtful literary practice, left politics and progressive movements for a long time. As a writer, Jatin Sarkar won the Swadhinata Puraskar in 2010, the Bangla Academy Sahitya Padak in 2007, the Prothom Alo Book Award for the book 'Pakistaner Janma-Mrityu Darshan' in 2005, Dr. Enamul Haque Gold Medal, Khalekdad Chowdhury Sahitya Puraskar, Moniruddin Yusuf Sahitya Puraskar and many other awards.After retiring from teaching for more than 42 years in 2002, Jatin Sarkar moved back to his native Netrakona district with his wife Kanan Sarkar. His first book, 'Sahityer Kake Protsya', was published in 1985. After that, 'Bangladesh Kavigan', 'Bengali's Socialist Heritage', 'Sanskritir Sangram', 'Manab Mon, Manab Dharma o Samaj Biplob' were published one after another. Along with these essays, he also wrote a grammar book for children. 'Galpe Golppe Byakaran', published by Bangla Academy in 1994, is a significant addition to Bangladesh's children's literature and grammar books. He wrote four books in the Bangla Academy's biographical books.

 They are 'Kedarnath Majumdar', 'Chandrakumar Dey', 'Haricaran Acharya', 'Sirajuddin Kasimpuri'. His edited books include 'Rabindranath's Golden Boat', 'Prosang Maulabad' and 'Jalal Geetika Samagura'. Apart from this, his notable books include 'Pakistan's Birth and Death Philosophy', 'Two-nation Theory, Fatalism and Scientific Consciousness', 'Culture and Intellectual News', 'Various Stories on Literature'.
