On International Workers' Day, a gas explosion occurred at a textile factory in Rupganj, Narayanganj, injuring four security guards. The incident happened as production activities were halted, causing a gas meter to explode due to high pressure and subsequently ignite a fire. The explosion occurred around 8 AM on Thursday (May 1) at Jainpuri Ashrafia Textile Mills (Monju Textile) in the Ruposhi Kazipara area, as confirmed by Abdullah Al Arefin, Assistant Director of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defense. The injured—Abdul Hannan (50), Kabir Hossain (45), and Saiful Islam (25)—are currently receiving treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka. Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, a resident surgeon at the hospital, said, “Four individuals were brought in with burn injuries. One was released after receiving first aid for minor injuries.” The other three suffered burns covering 34 to 53 percent of their bodies. Their respiratory tracts were also burned, making their condition critical, according to the doctor.
