Gas explosion leaves 3 injured in Siddhirganj

In Siddhirganj, Narayanganj, a gas explosion in a city corporation drain blew off the slabs, leaving three people, including two women, injured. Among them, one seriously injured person has been identified as Nur Islam (55), while the names of the two women could not be confirmed immediately. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in the CI Khola Bou Bazar area.
Eyewitnesses said that the loud explosion shook the area within a radius of about 300 meters. The 5-inch-thick drain slabs were hurled upwards, with dust and smoke spreading all around. Panic quickly gripped the area.
Narayanganj City Corporation Conservancy Officer Babul Shyamal Pal said that although the drains are cleaned every year, gas can sometimes accumulate in certain places. He suspected that improper cleaning might have caused the explosion. The matter is under investigation.
Siddhirganj Police Station OC Shahinur Alam said, police visited the site. “Primarily, it appears to be an explosion caused by accumulated gas. Further details will be revealed after investigation,” he added.
