The government has suspended two more National Board of Revenue (NBR) officials on the allegations of breaching service rules, authorities said.
The two officials are -- Mokitul Hasan, second secretary of customs policy at the NBR, and M Zillur Rahman, deputy director of Central Intelligence Cell.
According to the Internal Resources Division (IRD), Mokitul was suspended on allegations of breaching service discipline by disclosing highly confidential state documents.
The notification said that his actions violated the service conduct rules, prompting the authorities to initiate departmental proceedings against him following a preliminary investigation.
Zillur, the other official, was suspended for publicly tearing his transfer order.
Both of them have also been made an officer on special duty, according to a government notification issued on Wednesday.
As per government rules, Mokitul and Zillur have been temporarily suspended from their duties.
Earlier on Tuesday, another 14 officials of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) were suspended for ‘publicly tearing up’ their transfer orders. The Internal Resources Department (IRD) issued separate orders in this regard on Tuesday.
According to NBR sources, all of them were involved in the protests that rattled the revenue collecting agency last month.
Meanwhile, the government on Wednesday formed a high-profile nine-member inter-ministerial committee to assess the financial losses suffered by the state due to the prolonged strike and work abstention by Customs, VAT and Tax department officials.
According to an official order, the committee will review both the revenue losses and the broader economic impact caused by disruptions in customs clearance, import-export activities and tax collection.
