A human chain and protest march have been held at the initiative of the students demanding the vacation of the encroachment of the children's park land in Tongibari, Munshiganj.
The program was held at around 3 pm on Thursday in the premises of the children's park adjacent to Burirbari in the upazila. More than a hundred students from various educational institutions and leaders of anti-discrimination student organizations participated in the human chain organized under the banner of 'Tongibari Upazila Chhatra Janata'.
The speakers in the human chain alleged that the local Awlad Majhi has been occupying the children's park land for a long time. Although the administration has ordered to vacate the encroachment several times, he is not complying with it on various pretexts. They also alleged that he recently filed a writ in the High Court to keep the land in his possession.
The speakers also said, “If Awlad Majhi does not voluntarily vacate the park land soon, we will call for a larger movement.”
Earlier, a protest procession came out from the upazila field, circled various roads, and then went to the children’s park to meet for a rally.
