Main accused in human trafficking ring arrested in Sherpur

Sadar Police have arrested Lavlu Mia, the main accused in a human trafficking case in Sherpur. He was arested from his house in Dashkahania area of Charsherpur union of Sadar upazila on Monday (night. Two other accused in the case are absconding.
The arrested Lavlu Mia (49) is the son of Jayatullah of that area.
According to police and case report sources, on September 13, 2025, Lavlu Mia lured Saiful Islam of Pakuria Bhatiapara area of Sadar Upazila with a well-paid job in Saudi Arabia. For this, he took 650,000 taka from Saiful's family.
Later, Saiful was sent to Saudi Arabia, but complications arose over the promised job and salary. In such a situation, when Saiful's family contacted Lavlu to bring him back to the country, Lavlu Mia demanded another 1.6 million taka from Saiful's family.
When Saiful did not pay the demanded money, Lavlu's people prevented him from communicating with his family and held him hostage.
In this incident, Shahina Akhter, the wife of the victim Saiful Islam, filed a case against Lavlu Mia and three others in the Sherpur court under the Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking Act. Later, on the orders of the court, the police conducted a raid on Monday night and arrested Lavlu Mia from his house. The remaining two accused in the case are still absconding.
Sadar Police Station OC Khokon Chandra Ghosh confirmed the arrest and told the media that the main accused in the human trafficking case has been arrested. Efforts are underway to arrest the other accused.
