An elderly and mentally unstable woman of unknown identity, who had been wandering around Fakirhat in Bagerhat for nearly 25 years, has finally received medical care and attention—thanks to the humanitarian initiative of UNO  Sumona Irene.

On Wednesday morning (23 July) at around 10:00 AM, the woman was sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital in an ambulance. Alongside, a female entrepreneur named Sumi Hawlader was also sent to provide constant support and care for her during treatment.

According to locals, the unidentified woman, 75 years old, came to Faqirhat about  24–25 years ago. Since then, she had been wandering around various areas of the upazila—often seen near the Upazila Parishad, Health Complex, and Thana Morh. She had no permanent shelter, sometimes sleeping under tin roofs or on beds under the open sky. Her survival depended on food donated by kind-hearted locals.

Recently, residents noticed that one of her legs had developed severe infection and rot. When the matter was brought to the attention of UNO Sumona Irene, she personally visited the woman, assessed her condition, and took full responsibility for her medical treatment.

UNO Sumona Irene said,  the woman has been admitted to Khulna Medical, and all medical and necessary expenses will be borne by the Upazila Administration. Additionally, assistance from the Department of Social Services will also be arranged.

She further added that a dedicated female caregiver has been assigned to look after the woman at the hospital, and relevant medical authorities have been duly informed.

This noble and compassionate gesture has drawn widespread praise from the local community, with many calling UNO Sumona Irene a "humane administrator."
