Ansar personnel stationed at the Mirpur Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) office in the capital's Kafrul area detained an illegal middleman (dalal) while he was extorting money from service seekers under the pretext of expediting vehicle-related services on Sunday.
The suspect, identified as Md. Abdul Sattar, 22, was caught red-handed around 3:00 pm during a anti-broker drive conducted by an Ansar team comprising PC Md. Mofiz Uddin and members Pabitra Singha Chandra, Shaheen Alam, Roknuzzaman, and Raju Ahmed, in the presence of BRTA Executive Magistrate Md. Anisuzzaman.
Following his detention, Sattar was produced before the mobile court operated by Executive Magistrate Md. Anisuzzaman, who sentenced him to one month of simple imprisonment.
The convicted broker was subsequently handed over to the Kafrul Police Station for execution of the sentence and further legal procedures. Service seekers present at the office welcomed the operation, demanding continued drives to eradicate middleman networks from public service centers.
