The Bangladesh Police Association (BPA) has expressed deep concern over the widespread negative reactions triggered within the force following a controversial public statement made by a senior police official in Khulna.
In an official statement, the platform emphasized that the speeches and public remarks of police personnel must always reflect professionalism, restraint, and institutional values.
According to the BPA, the incident occurred on June 17 during a views-exchange meeting with citizens in the Labanchara Police Station area under the Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP). While attempting to assure the public that strict confidentiality would be maintained regarding information on criminals to control the law-and-order situation, KMP Additional Police Commissioner (Crime) Mohammad Rashidul Islam Khan reportedly said, "If any information is leaked after being shared with an inspector, I promise as a Muslim, I will personally hang that inspector from this tree, and you can beat him to death.".
A press statement issued on Saturday, signed by BPA President Kamrul Hasan Talukdar and General Secretary Monirul Haque Dablu, highlighted the organization’s official stance on the matter. The statement noted that the widely discussed speech on social media has sparked mixed reactions among various tiers of the police force. Many members viewed the comment as highly sensitive and voiced their anxieties regarding its impact on their morale, professional security, and mutual respect within the force.
The association underlined that the Bangladesh Police has long been striving to earn public trust by delivering services with professionalism, patience, and accountability. To sustain this progress, maintaining the morale of its members, ensuring their professional safety, and upholding mutual respect are absolutely critical.
The BPA further maintained that if there are specific allegations, irregularities, or negligence of duty against any police member, the issues must be settled strictly through existing laws, departmental rules, and official institutional frameworks. It stated that following institutional protocols is the most acceptable and effective way to deal with administrative or behavioral infractions.
Concluding the statement, the BPA asserted that any public speech by police officials should strengthen the dignity, discipline, and public trust of the force. The association urged all tiers of officers and members to exercise greater caution, restraint, and responsibility when making public statements in the future, while underscoring the need to maintain a positive working environment and mutual respect throughout the law enforcement agency.
