Victims have held a press conference demanding the withdrawal of a false case in Dohar upazila of Dhaka.
The press conference was organized on behalf of the family of Alomgir Shikder, former general secretary of the Dohar Upazila Chhatra Dal, at the auditorium of the Dohar Press Club at 2 pm on Thursday
In the press conference, a written statement on behalf of Alomgir Shikder was read by Siddiqur Rahman, former Chhatra Dal leader of Joypara College and newly elected General Aecretary of the Upazila Fish Traders’ Association.
He said that Md. Mohsin Uddin Khan (Masum), son of the late Moslem Uddin Khan of Dakshin Joypara Gangpara area and general secretary of the Municipal BNP, filed a case with Dohar Police Station on the night of September 27, accusing them of extortion of ten lakh taka. The case named 12 people, including Md. Alomgir Shikder, general secretary of the Upazila Chhatra Dal, and listed another 30-40 unnamed individuals as accused. He claimed the case was completely false and fabricated. The case was filed to socially and politically harass them.
Siddiqur Rahman further said that in the extortion case, it was alleged that there was an attack on the house of complainant Mohsin Uddin Khan Masum, in which he and his wife were injured. This allegation is entirely false. At that time, Masum was not at home, as he himself had posted on social media platform Facebook. Moreover, the house Masum lives in is actually owned by Alomgir Shikder, the general secretary of the Upazila Chhatra Dal, as per purchase and power of attorney documents.
The real incident was that on the morning of September 27, Alomgir Shikder went to Masum's house to ask him to come with ownership documents to resolve the land dispute. At that time, Masum was not home. His family members, instead of listening, asked Alomgir to go to court. Alomgir left after hearing this. This incident is recorded in the CCTV footage of the Municipal BNP leader's house. They are demanding from the police administration a fair investigation and quick withdrawal of this false extortion case.
Present at the press conference were Upazila Krishok Dal leader Anwar Hossain, Dohar Thana Sramik Dal Vice President Motaleb Khan, BNP leader Hero Shikder, respected local persons of the upazila, and local journalists of Dohar Press Club.
Regarding this matter, Md. Mohsin Uddin Khan (Masum), General Secretary of the Municipal BNP, stated that they purchased the property, including the building, from the occupiers in 2001 and have been in possession since then. The case was filed by the police after full investigation and collection of evidence. Therefore, nothing is fabricated.
