A protest rally and demonstration were held in Bandarban to protest the gang rape of a Tripura girl in Bhaiabonchhara, Khagrachari, and to demand exemplary punishment for the perpetrators. 

 

The rally and demonstration were organized by the Bandarban Indigenous Students’ Association in front of the Press Club.on Friday noon.

 

Earlier, students gathered at the local Raja’s field from various parts of the district. From there, the protest rally began, circling the main roads of the town and concluding in front of the Press Club. The rally saw the participation of over a hundred students from schools, colleges, and universities, holding various placards and banners.

At the demonstration, speakers stated that such incidents are not new, and whenever a woman is raped, they take to the streets in protest, but the perpetrators often face no justice. Instead, the culprits are released on bail after arrest, which is why incidents like rape continue to rise. They noted that even after the mass uprising of students and the public, the situation remains unchanged, and the justice system has not improved despite changes in the country. They demanded that the rapists be brought under the law and face exemplary punishment. Additionally, the speakers protested the death of Bhan Lal Royal Bom, who was detained in custody on suspicion of KNF involvement.

It is  mentioned  that on June 27, a 14-year-old girl from the Tripura community, after attending the Rath Yatra fair in Khagrachari, took shelter at a relative’s house. There, six young men entered the house, tied up her relative, raped the girl, and fled. When the incident came to light, the girl’s father filed a rape case at Khagrachari Police Station on Wednesday, naming six individuals as accused. The police have managed to arrest Arman Hossain (32), Imon Hossain (25), Enayet Hossain (35), Saddam Hossain (32), and Md. Munir Islam (29), while Md. Sohel Islam (23) remains at large
