Minister for Road Transport and Bridges, Railways, and Shipping Sheikh Rabiul Alam, MP, stated that guaranteeing the religious freedom and rights of every citizen remains the duty of the state and government.

Addressing a event as chief guest organized by the Dhanmondi Sarbojanin Puja Udjapan Committee at the Kalabagan Krira Chakra ground in the capital on Friday, the Minister emphasized that religious rights are an inherent entitlement of every citizen rather than an act of pity or benevolence.

Extending Sharadiya greetings to members of the Hindu community, Sheikh Rabiul Alam noted that citizens share an identity as Bangladeshis above all, leaving no room for division based on religion, caste, or creed. He added that the state must foster an environment where people of all faiths can practice their religion freely, safely, and independently.

Condemning the political exploitation of faith, the Minister remarked that religion serves as a medium for spiritual practice and divine connection. He warned against individuals, groups, or political parties misusing religious sentiments to establish dominance, asserting that religious spaces must remain open, safe, and accessible to everyone.

Regarding security and civic arrangements for Durga Puja, the Minister highlighted that public holidays were extended based on inter-ministerial decisions to ensure smooth celebrations. He added that coordinated measures have been taken across relevant ministries to guarantee road safety, streamline traffic flow, minimize passenger suffering during festive travel to and from Dhaka, and maintain uninterrupted electricity and essential utility services. Public allocations for the celebration of Durga Puja have also been increased, he noted.

Addressing the Hindu community of his constituency, Sheikh Rabiul Alam assured that he would assess the feasibility of identifying available government land to construct a permanent puja mandap in the area, offering a lasting solution to the logistical challenges faced by organizers each year.
