
Teachers’ human chain in Juri demanding salary, allowance increase

In Juri upazila of Moulvibazar, MPO-listed teachers and staff formed a human chain demanding a 20% increase in house rent allowance, a medical allowance of Tk 1,500, and a 75% festival allowance for non-teaching staff. They also protested against the brutal attack on teachers and staff currently demonstrating in Dhaka.
The human chain took place on Thursday in front of the Juri Upazila office. It was jointly conducted by Saiful Islam Saif, Central Vice President of the Bangladesh Non-Government Teachers’ Forum (BABESHIKFO) and Head Teacher of Krishnanagar Bashirpur High School, and Maulana Abdur Rahim Sarkar, Acting Superintendent of Jangirai Dakhil Madrasa. The program was presided over by Ishak Ali, Head Teacher of Muktadir Girls’ High School.
The chief guest of the event was Maulana Liaquat Ali Khan, Principal of Nayabazar Ahmadiya Fazil Madrasa.
Among others who spoke at the human chain were politician and educationist Maulana Abdur Rahman, Maulana Yakub Ali, Principal of Shahkhaki (R.) Alim Madrasa, Aminul Islam, Assistant Professor of Sagornal Senior Alim Madrasa, Nazrul Islam, Head Teacher of Phultala Bashir Ullah High School, Enayet Hossain, Lecturer of Haji Aftab Uddin Amina Khatun College, Rafiqul Islam, Superintendent of Jaifarnagar Women’s Madrasa, Jakaria Mahmud, Acting Head Teacher of Chhoto Dhamai High School, Md. Shahiduzzaman, Head Teacher of Sona Mia Aptarunnesa High School, Joba Rani Chasha, Assistant Head Teacher of Sagornal High School, Chand Ali, Senior Assistant Teacher of Nirod Bihari High School, Monsurul Rahman Palash, Assistant Teacher of Nayabazar Ahmadiya Fazil Madrasa, and on behalf of the staff, Sabuj Mia, Office Assistant of Ragna Botuli High School, among others.
During the human chain, teachers and staff warned the government that they would not return home until their demands were met.
