US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau has praised the leadership of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at a critical juncture for Bangladesh and reaffirmed continued US support for the country.
The appreciation came as National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman met the Deputy Secretary of State on Wednesday at the State Department in Washington, DC.
They discussed the Rohingya crisis, ongoing tariff negotiations between Bangladesh and the US, developments in South Asia, and Bangladesh’s democratic transition, according to the Chief Adviser’s press wing.
The US Deputy Secretary of State said they discussed the Bangladesh-US relationship, including expanding trade and commercial ties.
"The US is committed to working with Bangladesh to promote peace and stability in the region," he said in a post from his verified X handle.
"Enjoyed meeting Bangladesh NSA Rahman today and hear about the interim government’s efforts ahead of the national election."
Dr Rahman also met separately with Assistant US Trade Representative Brendan Lynch, holding productive discussions on the reciprocal tariff agreement between the two countries.
