
Woman stabbed to death while getting up to pray in Chatkhil

A 63-year-old elderly woman named Tahera Begum was stabbed to death after intruders entered her home in Chatkhil, Noakhali.
Police could not immediately state any reason behind the murder. The incident took place early Wednesday morning at Munshi Bari in Khilpara village of Khilpara Union in the upazila.
The deceased, Tahera Begum, was the wife of the late Abdul Matin of the same household.
According to police and local sources, Tahera Begum had two sons and one daughter. She used to live in the same room with her elder son Tarek. As usual, she went to sleep in her bedroom on Tuesday night. Her elder son Tarek was sleeping in the adjacent room.
In the early morning, the miscreants entered the house by removing the exhaust fan. At that time, when she got up for Tahajjud prayer, she came face to face with the intruders in her room. At one point, the assailants stabbed her in the chest, shoulder, and neck, seriously injuring her before fleeing the scene.
Later, she woke her son by calling out to him. When the son opened the door of his room, he found his mother lying in a pool of blood. He immediately took her to the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.
OC of Chatkhil Police Station Firoz Uddin Chowdhury said it is assumed that the woman got up for Tahajjud prayer. Before that, the miscreants entered the house by removing the exhaust fan. When they came face to face, they stabbed her in the chest and shoulder. Later, family members took her to the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital, where the doctor declared her dead.
The body is currently kept at the morgue of the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital. Police are trying to uncover the mystery behind the murder.
