World Refuge Day: Humanity Testing Earth
Dr. Mohammed Mahtab Hossain Mazed
Millions of people are expelled from their homeland due to constant war, oppression, religious or political conflict and natural disasters in the world. These people are called 'refugees'. The World Refugee Day is celebrated on 20 June every year, which has been celebrated for 2001 years by the UN Refugee High Commission (UNHCR). This day is mainly celebrated to convey their rights to the refugees and to ensure their rights and security.
> The definition and reality of refugee
According to the UN definition, the refugee is a person who has left his home country due to war, violence, oppression or human rights violations and sought refuge in other countries and live in the hope of security. "
In today's world, about 120 people have been displaced by force. About 40 million people are living in other countries as refugees. Most people from Afghanistan, Syria, Sudan, Myanmar, Venezuela and Ukraine have been the most refugees.
> The misery of refugees: one humanitarian crisis
The lives of the refugees begin painfully. They try to escape homeland, homes, families and friends. But when entering the promised countries of the safe shelter, he faced obstacles - he was detained at the border, henta, starvation or exploited.
> Food and Medical Crisis
Most refugee camps do not have minimum food, drinking water and health care. Women and children, in particular, are at risk of sexual violence and human trafficking.
> The generation deprived of education
About 48% of refugee children cannot go to school. According to a survey, the rate of secondary education among refugee adolescents is only 27%. Thus a generation is in the face of destruction.
> The context of Bangladesh: Rohingya Refugees Crisis
Bangladesh is playing an important role in the assistance of refugees. Especially in the face of the torture of the Myanmar army in the 2017st, about 10 lakh Rohingya Muslims fled to Cox's Bazar. They have also ensured shelter, food, medical and security in Bangladesh's limited resources.
However, the long-term refugee problem puts pressure on the socio-economic balance of a nation. At present, the Rohingya, who live in Cox's Bazar and Bhasanchar, have become a major challenge for Bangladesh's security, environment and economy.
> The role of global challenges and states
The refugee problem is not just a state, it is a global humanitarian crisis. But many countries nowadays are reluctant to take refuge - they are closing the borders, strict immigration laws. Many times the use of refugees for political purposes is also noticed.
According to the United Nations, it is the human responsibility of every state to provide refugees as well as their rehabilitation, employment, education and healthcare opportunities.
> Right to legal structure and refuge
According to the UN Refugee Charter of the 9th and the protocol of 9, every refugee has the right to get international protection. They cannot be returned without trial (non-refoulement principle). But with the application of this Charter, many states are worn.
Although Bangladesh did not sign this certificate, the Rohingya people have given shelter to humanitarian considerations. Now is the time to come forward more actively to the international community to find a permanent and human solution for the refugees.
> Introduction to International Organization
UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees)
This company is responsible for rehabilitation, shelter, education and treatment of refugees. UNHCR provides ration distribution, safe water supply and legal assistance to various camps.
Iom (International Organization for Migration)
IOM is playing an important role in immigration management around the world. The role of this organization in the safe and voluntary repatriation of the refugees, especially, is commendable.
> Importance of World Refuge Day
World Refuge Day is not just a day to highlight the tragic stories of refugees, it is a day of promise - where the world promises, they will be on the oppressed, displaced and disappointing people. This day the refugees were sympathetic and supported by the refugees and called for their human rights.
> The guidance of the future and the future
1. Emphasize
The main roots of the refugee problem are war and oppression. Therefore, it is important to find a peaceful solution through diplomatic and political processes.
2. Increase in international assistance
Refugee-taking countries should provide economic and technical assistance. More cooperation in the developed world is needed to reduce the burden of different countries, including Bangladesh.
3. Education
Confirming education for refugee children will be able to stand on their own feet and reduce the risk of crime and extremism.
4. Increase public awareness
It is necessary to raise public awareness on behalf of media, NGOs and educational institutions to eliminate misconceptions about refugees.
Finally, I want to say that World Refuge Day reminds us that there are thousands of people around us who are living in fear, torture and insecurity. They have no crime - they just dream of a safe life. If we cannot stand beside these unfortunate people, the word humanity will have no meaning.
On this day, all of us are committed - to stand beside the travelers, restore their rights and build a world on humanity. The world will be truly civilized when every human being - whatever religion, nation, or the country can be considered safe and respected.
