
1 killed, 10 injured as truck rams parked bus on Dhaka-Mawa Expressway

One person was killed and 10 others injured when a speeding truck hit a stationary passenger bus on Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Sreenagar upazila of Munshiganj early Friday.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Kuddus Chan Mridha, 70, son of Abdur Rahman of Nandail in Mymensingh district.
According to police, the Mymensingh-bound passenger bus heading towards Atroshi Darbar Sharif in Faridpur had stopped on the roadside due to a punctured tire.
The truck coming from behind crashed into the bus at high speed when the driver and staff were replacing the tire near the Kamarkhola area around 5:30am, said police.
Muhammad Shafiqul Islam, deputy assistant director of Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defence, said a team from the Sreenagar fire station rushed to the spot and rescued the injured, who were later taken to the Sreenagar Upazila Health Complex.
Abdul Qader, in-charge of Hasara Highway Police Outpost, said traffic was temporarily disrupted on the expressway due to the accident.
However, normalcy returned on the highway when the damaged vehicles were removed, he added.
