
ACC starts probe into ex-UK high commissioner Saida Muna, her husband

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an investigation into Saida Muna Tasneem, Bangladesh’s former high commissioner to the United Kingdom, and her husband, Towhidul Islam Chowdhury, chairman of Generation Next Fashions Ltd, over allegations of laundering around Tk2,000 crore.
ACC Chairman Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen confirmed the development at a press conference on Monday.
The couple are accused of embezzling and laundering approximately Tk2,000 crore from various financial institutions using 12 fake companies.
“Working in collusion, the individuals in question allegedly embezzled and laundered about Tk2,000 crore overseas," said Momen.
They took out loans from several banks and financial institutions in the name of Generation Next Fashions Ltd and 12 other shell entities, he added.
