AL Union Chairman Shahidul Islam Majnu arrested in Faridpur bus-burning case

Police arrested Shahidul Islam Majnu, Chairman of Ishan Gopalpur Union Parishad and President of the Ishan Gopalpur Union Awami League, from the Rajbari Rastar Mor area of Faridpur town on Monday afternoon.
Majnu, who is named as the primary accused in a case involving the arson of a seized passenger bus, was apprehended around 1:30 pm by a team from the Kotwali Police Station following a tip-off.
Following his arrest, Majnu reportedly fell ill during initial interrogation at the police station. Consequently, instead of producing him directly before the court, police transferred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital under police escort for medical treatment at approximately 4:00 pm.
Confirming the arrest, OC of Faridpur Kotwali Police Station Md. Mahmudul Hasan stated that Majnu had been absconding for an extended period. The OC noted that the suspect faces a total of 14 criminal cases, including charges of arson, vehicle vandalism, sabotage, and obstructing government officials from discharging their duties.
The OC added that Majnu was shown arrested specifically in connection with an arson attack that took place on the night of September 18 near the Karimpur Highway Police Outpost in Faridpur Sadar.
