Aminul at National Press Club : Sports to be added to Class IV curriculum from 2027 ​

The government has taken steps to spread table tennis across the country alongside football and cricket, State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque said on.Sunday.

Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of a week-long sports program marking the 72nd anniversary of the National Press Club, the minister announced that sports will be included as a new subject in the Grade IV curriculum starting in 2027 following directives from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

The curriculum reform will gradually be extended to other classes in subsequent years. In addition, training and lessons across 10 events under the "Notun Kuri Sports" program will be introduced in schools.

Later, the minister officially opened the event by playing a game of table tennis.

Presided over by National Press Club President Hasan Hafiz, the inaugural ceremony was addressed by Club General Secretary Aiyub Bhuiyan, Chief Information Officer Syed Abdal Ahmad, and BSS Chief Editor and Managing Director Kader Gani Chowdhury.

Shahnaz Begum Polly, convener of the sports sub-committee, delivered the welcome address. Management committee member Mohammad Momin Hossain and other club members were also present.

The inaugural day featured a doubles table tennis tournament at the club's Abdus Salam Hall, with 64 participants taking part. Anwar Hossain of NCC Bank won the title, while Mahbub Reza of Ekattor TV finished as runner-up. Shamim Hasan of Protidin-er Bangladesh secured third place.
