Embodied members of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) detained a suspect for alleged broker activities at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in Dhaka on Tuesday morning, subsequently handing him over to local police.

The detainee was identified as Md. Riaz Hossain, 35. According to official sources, the incident occurred around 8:20 AM on Tuesday, within the premises of NICVD under Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) West Zone. Riaz allegedly targeted a patient seeking medical treatment at the government facility, offering assurances and temptations to persuade the patient to seek services at a private clinic or hospital outside.

Spotting the deceptive approach, the patient declined the offers and immediately alerted on-duty Ansar personnel. A four-member Ansar team, led by Hospital In-Charge PC Md. Aminul Haq and comprising APC Zahirul Islam, Ansar Md. Habibur Rahman, and Md. Aminul Islam, responded promptly and apprehended the suspect on site.

During preliminary interrogation, Riaz confessed to his involvement in broker operations, admitting that he routinely targeted patients and their relatives with false promises of swift care and low-cost diagnostic tests to divert them to private clinics.

The Ansar team handed the suspect over to hospital management, who subsequently turned him over to Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station for further legal action following initial questioning. NICVD authorities extended formal appreciation to the Ansar personnel for their swift action. Ansar and VDP officials reiterated that vigilance will remain heightened across public hospitals to prevent the harassment and exploitation of patients by illicit broker syndicates.
