A source breaker of a 33 kV power line at the Chaumuhani grid substation in Begumganj, Noakhali, has been damaged in an explosion. This has shut down the 33 kV power supply line from Chaumuhani to Maijdi, causing a power outage in the district town of Maijdi and surrounding areas.

The incident took place at the Chaumuhani Grid Substation at around 8:30 pm on Friday. After the explosion, the breaker caught fire, causing power supply to the Maijdi Substation to be cut off.

According to sources in the Noakhali office of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB), a fire broke out in a sudden explosion at the 33 kV source breaker of the Chaumuhani grid substation at around 8:30 pm on Friday. This cut off power to the Maijdi substation. This is the main breaker, through which the load is brought. In parallel with its failure, another source is supplying 10 megawatts of electricity through a ring circuit. But the demand is 20 megawatts. About half of the demand is being supplied in turns.

It was found that the demand for electricity in the area under the PDB in Maizdi, the district town of Noakhali, is 22 to 25 MW. Only 10 MW was supplied there last night. In this situation, it has been decided to supply electricity to different areas in a rotation basis for one hour until the damaged breaker is restored. That is, if electricity is supplied to one part of the city for one hour, it will be off in another part. The supply area will be changed in the next hour.

Local resident Lokman Hossain said that the power supply in his area was cut off last night. Later, power was restored around 12 am the next day. Less than an hour later, the power went out again. In this way, the power went on and off several times throughout the night and until this morning. He could not sleep properly at night due to the power shortage.

PDB Noakhali Executive Engineer Md. Habibul Bahar said, as the pole of the 33 KV source breaker of the Chaumuhani grid substation was damaged and broken, electricity is being supplied to the district town through an alternative system. At the same time, work is going on uninterruptedly to normalize the power supply. The work is slightly disrupted due to the rain. It is expected that the work of installing the new breaker will be completed by Saturday afternoon. This will normalize the situation.
