Child protests against father over mother's murder in Munshiganj

A human chain was formed demanding the death penalty for Sumon Mia (45), who confessed to murdering his wife, housewife Mitu Akter (28), with a sharp cleaver in the Bot Tola area of Purbo Para, Mir Kadim Municipality, Munshiganj at 12 PM on Thursday in front of the Munshiganj Press Club, organized under the banner of the people of Mir Kadim Municipality.
More than a hundred locals, including members of the victim’s family and relatives, took part in the human chain.
Mitu Akter’s daughter, Marzana Akter (12), tearfully demanded justice for her mother’s murder during the demonstration. She said, “My father, Sumon Mia, killed my mother. I want him to be hanged. I ask you all for justice for my mother’s murder.”
Many protesters chanted angrily, "We demand the hanging of Sumon Mia." They said such a brutal killing of a woman cannot be accepted under any circumstances. “We hope the culture of impunity ends here,” they added.
Present at the event were the victim’s father Md. Montu Mia, mother Aklima Begum, elder daughter Marzana Akter (12), younger daughter Marzia (9), and son Abid Hossain (7), among others.
Background: On the night of May 19, after consuming alcohol, Sumon Mia, also known as Shahjahan, killed his wife Mitu Akter with a cleaver and later surrendered at the police station. The next day, Mitu’s mother, Aklima Begum, filed a murder case at the Sadar police station, naming Sumon Mia and several unidentified individuals. On Wednesday night, police arrested another suspect, Md. Ramzan (45), in connection with the case.
