Chinese vessel 'Fan Zhou-6' docks at Payra Port with heavy cargo handling cranes

Kalapara (Patuakhali) Correspondent

Chinese-flagged cargo vessel 'Fan Zhou-6' docked directly at the first terminal of Payra Port carrying five modern cargo handling equipments, marking the arrival of major operational machinery after a two-year hiatus.

The large-scale vessel berthed at the terminal on Wednesday morning following an 18-day voyage from China's Pingtan Port, having departed on September 18. Payra Port senior officials were present to oversee the docking operations.

The imported heavy machinery includes two quay gantry cranes with an 80-tonne capacity, two rubber-tyred gantry cranes with a 40-tonne capacity, and a mobile harbor crane capable of handling up to 80,000 tonnes. The equipment was procured to modernize cargo and container handling operations at the port's primary terminal.

Payra Port Traffic Division Deputy Director and Media Coordinator Azizur Rahman stated that installing the new cranes will significantly reduce vessel turnaround times and accelerate container discharge operations.

Payra Port Chairman Rear Admiral Syed Saif-ul-Islam highlighted that the integration of modern cargo handling equipment will enhance the port's operational efficiency, technology-driven logistics management, and overall capacity as an international maritime hub.
