Coast Guard seized 1,900-kg of banned polythene at Sowari Ghat

The Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized a substantial quantity of illegal, banned polythene bags valued at approximately TK 28.5 lakh during a special anti-pollution drive near the Sowari Ghat area adjacent to the Buriganga River.
Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon, media officer for the Coast Guard, confirmed the operation through an official press statement on Friday afternoon.
According to the Coast Guard, acting on a confidential tip-off, an operational team from Coast Guard Station Pagla conducted a targeted raid in the Sowari Ghat area at around 5:30 AM on Friday. During the sweep, officers intercepted three suspicious hand-vans and recovered 1,900 kilograms of banned polythene bags.
Authorities reported that no arrests were made during the operation as the actual owners of the contraband goods could not be identified or located at the scene.
Legal proceedings have been taken to dispose of the seized polythene in accordance with environmental regulations.
. The Coast Guard reiterated that its rigorous drives to curb illegal manufacturing, transportation, and usage of banned polythene will continue in order to protect the environment.
