Coast Guard seized boat with 100 sacks of cement while being used to smuggle drugs from Myanmar
Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized a boat with 100 sacks of cement while it was being used to smuggle drugs from Myanmar in exchange for cement on Friday.
This information was shared by Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq through a press release on Friday afternoon.
The press release stated that based on confidential information, it was learned that an unscrupulous syndicate was planning to smuggle yaba, liquor, and other narcotics from Myanmar into Bangladesh in exchange for cement.
Acting on this information, a special operation was conducted by the Coast Guard Contingent Banskhali at around 2 a.m. on Friday in the Khatkhali estuary area under Banskhali Thana in Chattogram.
During the operation, the Coast Guard team signaled a suspicious engine-driven wooden boat to stop. The suspects on the boat disregarded the signal and quickly fled to the nearby mangrove forest, abandoning the boat. Subsequently, the Coast Guard team searched the boat and seized it along with 100 sacks of cement valued at approximately 50,000 taka.
The seized cement and the boat used for smuggling are currently undergoing further legal proceedings.
The Coast Guard will continue such operations in the future to curb drug smuggling.
