
College student dies in Mirsarai Ruposhi Waterfall

A college student named Asif Uddin (24) died while bathing in the pool of Ruposhi Waterfall in Mirsarai, Chattogram at 12:30 PM on Sunday at the Bara Kamaldah Ruposhi Waterfall in the upazila.
The deceased, Asif Uddin, was the son of Md. Sarwar Kamal Golap from Kamal Gate area of Purba Madarbari under Sadarghat Police Station in Chattogram. He was a fourth-year student in the Finance and Banking department at Chattogram Islamia Degree College.
According to reports, five friends came to visit Ruposhi Waterfall from Chattogram city on Sunday morning. They entered the waterfall area at around 11:30 AM. During the fun and excitement with friends, all of them went into the pool to bathe together. None of them knew how to swim. While four friends—Hasan, Mehedi Hasan, Mahin Nishat, and Rakib—managed to reach the bank, Asif drowned. When they could not find him after searching, they informed the Fire Service Station. Later, the Mirsarai Fire Service rescue team recovered his body at around 2:00 PM.
Mehedi Hasan, a friend of the deceased, said, “We came to visit at around 11:30 AM. After entering the waterfall, all of us started bathing. While everyone else made it out, Asif could not. We started searching for him. After a long time with no trace, we called 999 and informed the fire service. They came and rescued him with the help of locals.”
Shahlong Marma, the team leader of the Mirsarai Fire Service, said, “A call was made to the national emergency service 999 informing that a tourist had gone missing in the waterfall. We quickly reached the spot with the rescue team. With the help of locals, our diving team recovered the dead body at around 2:00 PM. After recovery, the body was handed over to the police.”
