Dr. Ezajul Islam balances medical career, acting to serve patients, audiences

Professor Dr. Shah Mohammad Ezajul Islam continues to set an exemplary standard across Bangladesh's medical and cultural sectors, combining his profession as a nuclear medicine specialist with a acclaimed career in film and television.
Born in Sadullapur upazila under Gaibandha district in 1960, Dr. Ezajul completed his MBBS degree from Rangpur Medical College in 1984. He subsequently pursued advanced degrees in nuclear medicine, serving in specialized diagnostic and therapeutic roles before being appointed Head of the Nuclear Medicine Department at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in 2017. Outside his academic and administrative duties, Dr. Ezajul earned the affectionate moniker "Doctor of the Poor" for offering medical consultations to underprivileged patients for a nominal fee of Tk 300.
Along with his medical career, Dr. Ezajul established a distinguished presence in Bangladesh's entertainment industry, debuting under the direction of celebrated author and filmmaker Humayun Ahmed. Following early roles in the television drama Shobuje Chhaya and the feature film Shravon Megher Din, he delivered noted performances in films such as Dui Duari and Tarkata, eventually winning a National Film Award for his contributions to cinema.
