The army conducted a raid on the house of Gopalganj district BNP leader and Gopalganj-2 constituency candidate Dr. KM Babar at 2 am on August 22. During this, they recovered an abandoned country-made pipe gun.
In this regard, Dr. KM Babar's wife Dr. Rabeya Akhter, who held a press conference at the district BNP office on Saturday at 11:30 am, said in a written statement, "My husband Dr. KM Babar is a BNP nomination aspirant from Gopalganj-2 constituency. He has already gained immense popularity. As a victim of political vendetta, someone left a weapon in the commode flash in my mother-in-law's bathroom at night. Later, after receiving information, 40 to 50 army members conducted a search at 2 am and recovered the abandoned country-made pipe gun from inside the commode. The matter is a complete political conspiracy."
He further said, "We have been politically and socially humiliated over this incident. We strongly condemn and protest against it and demand that the true facts be revealed through a fair investigation."
Present at the press conference were District BNP Member Secretary Adv. Abul Khair, BNP leaders Adv. Toufiqul Islam, Azizur Rahman Bena, Adv. Selim, Ziaul Kabir Biplob, Sadar Upazila BNP General Secretary Fazlul Kabir Dar, Sheikh Hasibur Rahman, Jubo Dal President Riaz Uddin Lipton, General Secretary Rasheduzzaman Palash, and leaders of various levels of BNP and its affiliate organizations.
