
DU VC's WhatsApp account hacked, fraud attempt foiled

The official WhatsApp account (01711549361) of the Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, was hacked.
After the hacking, a fraudulent ring attempted to solicit money from people known to the Vice-Chancellor using his name and identity. Upon the administration's notice, swift action was taken, and with the assistance of the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB), the concerned number was immediately deactivated.
GD has been filed at Shahbagh Police Station regarding the incident. The GD number is 2054. The Vice-Chancellor’s personal mobile number remains secure.
Dhaka University administration has urged everyone to remain vigilant against such fraudulent activities. If anyone encounters any suspicious messages or communications of this kind, they are requested to immediately inform law enforcement agencies or the university authorities.
The Dhaka University authorities are working closely with the relevant departments to ensure cybersecurity. Initiatives have been taken to implement necessary precautionary measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents in the future.
